Cartography II

The creation of thematic maps is the key content of the subject. ArcGIS for Desktop will be used as a software background. Within the subject key methods of thematic cartography will be presented.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student will manage basic theoretical knowledge of cartographic creation and production of maps. Using the digital technologies they will be able to make compilation manuscript and fair draught.

Prerequisites

Cartographic terminology, optics, theory of color.

1-2 Thematic maps composition. Cartographic representation. 3-4 Cartographic generalization. Topographic content of the map. 5-6 Qualitative data visualization. 7-8 Quantitative data visualization (choropleth map, izoplets, dasymetric map). 9-10 Quantitative data visualization (proportional map, dot map). 11-12 Time-spatial dynamics visualization.
