Binders 1 - Computational Principles of the Structure of Silicate (M)

Application of theoretical knowledge in the field of ionizing radiation and mineral crystallography - X-ray diffraction and fluorescence spectral analysis, electron scanning microscopy. Calculation of the D-spacing value.
Application of theoretical knowledge in the field of properties of liquids and gas - Calculations related to the state equation of gas, surface tension of liquids and capillary phenomena, viscosity of liquids, high pressure mercury porosimetry, determination of particle size of fine particles.
Applications of theoretical knowledge in the field of equilibrium at the phase interfaces in analytical methods - BET analysis.
Application of reaction kinetics for the design of short-term durability tests.
Application oftheoretical knowledge in the field of the structure of silicates in the derivation of formulas silicate minerals. Theoretical design and practical preparation and analysis of silicate minerals.

Syllabus

1. Introduction to the subject, content and evaluation criteria. 2. Basic terms in the field of sulfate binders. 3. Basic concepts of lime. 4. Basic concepts in the field of cement. 5. Basic concepts and calculations – Inorganic chemistry, Material quantity, Radioactivity, XRD. 6. Calculations – gas equation, surface tension, capillary height of the capillary, mixing equation. 7. Reaction kinetics, derivation of relationship and calculation for shortened durability tests. 8. Basic concepts in the field of silicate chemistry – structure of silicates, calculation of the structure valences, design and calculation of the composition of the raw material for the preparation of the selected mineral. 9. Laboratory preparation of raw material for preparation of selected mineral, firring and cooling, mineral analysis using XRD and SEM analysis. 10. Application of the obtained knowledge in the evaluation of the results obtained in exercise No. 8 - Evaluation of XRD and SEM data, comparison with theoretical design and the theory of silicate formation and the conditions and rules of the solid state reaction. 11. Excursion - production of building silicates. 12. Test, credit.
