Assessment of Existing Structures

FAST-BIB009Acad. year: 2022/2023

Specifics of existing structures - structural systems for buildings, properties and identification of building materials in the past, building codes.
General methodology for the evaluation of existing buildings - flowchart evaluation, determination of purpose, creating scenarios.
Methods for estimating the residual life of the structure.
Basic tools for assessment of buildings - inspections, surveys, monitoring.
Overview of test methods used in the surveys, the relationship between non-destructive and destructive tests, evaluation of test results using statistical methods.
Diagnosis construction defects and failures. Monitoring deformation and cracking of structures, fatigue and degradation of the material. Methods for long-term monitoring projects.
Examples of rating buildings according to the materials supporting structures - Assessment of masonry and reinforced concrete structures and buildings of other materials (stone, wood, etc.).
Seminar work focused on the preliminary evaluation and design of construction-technical survey of selected existing structures.
Exercise in laboratories and in the field with individual tasks, examples of test procedures on models and structures.
