Screenprinting - summer

In the summer semester, the Screenprinting course focuses on teaching the technique of printing from a direct stencil. The study of the course will allow students to master the realization of their own designs. The course is based on a theoretical introduction that provides an overview of current technological possibilities.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will learn the basic theory of screenprinting. They will learn both the methods of processing designs for printing from a direct stencil, and independent realization of the print. They will acquire the ability to apply and realize their own designs in relation to contemporary artistic tendencies. 

Prerequisites

Keen interest in stencil printing.

Lectures, workshops and consultations. 

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Assessment is based on submission of prints of assigned techniques implemented during the course:
1. preparation and printing of an analogue stencil – one-colour print A4 size
2. preparation and printing of a digital stencil – two-colour A3 size
3. preparation and printing of a poster – two or more colours A2 size

1. Introduction to screen printing theory (lecture)
2. Preliminary designs of direct (experimental) printing stencils
3. Technique of direct stencil – creation of students’ designs, consultation
4. Direct stencil technique – printing implementation
5. Indirect stencil technique – practical demonstration and creation of designs for printing on textiles
6. Indirect stencil technique – creation of students’ designs, consultation and possibilities of realization of printing on textile
7. Indirect stencil technique –printing
8. Indirect stencil technique – printing
9. Preliminary designs of direct template – monotype
10. Direct stencil technique – creation of students’ designs, consultation and printing possibilities
11. Direct stencil technique – print implementation
12. Direct stencil technique – print implementation

Aims

The aim of the Screenprinting course is to introduce student to the possibilities of stencil techniques and to provide them with the space to create original graphic sheets.
