Screenprinting - winter

In the winter semester, the Screenprinting course focuses on teaching the technique of printing from an indirect stencil on paper and textiles. The study of the course will allow students to master the realization of their own designs. The course is based on a theoretical introduction that provides an overview of current technological possibilities.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will learn the basic theory of screenprinting. They will learn both the methods of processing designs for printing from an indirect stencil, and independent realization of the print. They will acquire the ability to apply and realize their own designs in relation to contemporary artistic tendencies. 

Prerequisites

Keen interest in stencil techniques.

Lectures, workshops and consultations. 

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit is awarded on the basis of attendance and submission of prints of assigned techniques implemented during the course:
1. preparation and printing of an analogue stencil – one-colour print A4 size
2. preparation and printing of a digital stencil – two-colour A3 size
3. preparation and printing of a poster – two or more colours A2 size

1. Introduction to screenprinting theory (lecture)
2. Preliminary designs of indirect analogue stencils for printing
3. Technique of analogue indirect stencil – creation of students’ designs, consultations
4. Technique of analogue indirect template – printing
5. Preparatory designs of digital indirect stencils for printing
6. Digital indirect stencil technique – creation of students’ designs, consultations
7. Digital indirect stencil technique – print implementation
8. Digital indirect stencil technique – printing
9. Preparatory designs of analogue or digital indirect stencil for poster printing
10. Selected printing technique – creation of students’ designs, consultation
11. Selected printing technique – print implementation
12. Selected printing technique – printing

Aims

The aim of the Screenprinting course is to introduce student to the possibilities of stencil techniques and to provide them with the space to create original graphic sheets.
