Project Management

The structure of the subject is based on the life cycle of the project. We will go through the phases of the project and the practical methods of the project will explain the methods used in the given stages. Students will understand individual project management methods and will know when to use this method. It is related to the understanding of the input information that is necessary for the construction of the given methods and what they are doing in the project. Content of the International Project Management Organization (IPMA), Project Management Institute (PMI) Project in Controlled Environment (PRINCE2).

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will understand the complexity of project management and the need to use its methods in the implementation of projects in enterprises. They realize how important it is to set the target and project boundaries at the outset, project success criteria, define stakeholders and their requirements. It will clarify the basic principles of project management, familiarize with the methods and understand the processes of project management.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

In the course the students will learn about the internationally recognized principles, trends and procedures in project planning and management. Students will learn how to use information and communication technology in the area of project management. Emphasis will be placed on team understanding and problem solving.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

To complete the exercises it is necessary to elaborate the team semestral work and presentation. The exam is a form of test.
Students with an individual study plan have the same conditions.

Course curriculum

1 week Introduction to project management (basic terminology, concepts and definitions, project characteristics, life cycle of a project, types of projects, project within a permanent organization, project management standards).
2-3 weeks Pre-project phases (objectives and benefits of the project, triple constraint, identification and analysis of stakeholders).
4-5 weeks Project start phase (SMART goals, logl frame matrix of the project - benefits, goals, key products, activities, assumptions and risks of successful implementation, setting of project metrics and resources, risk identification).
6-9 weeks Project Planning Phase (WBS, Gantt Charts, Network Analysis - Edge Charts and Node Charts, Reserve Types, CPM and PERT Methods, Optimization, Activity Evaluations, Resource and Cost Analysis, Risk Analysis - Risk, scenario, types of risk, risk management processes, risk analysis methods, risk mitigation measures).
10-11 weeks Project management phase (project implementation and monitoring, communication management, EVM value analysis, change management, risk monitoring, crisis and conflict in the project).
12-13 weeks Phase of project termination and post-project phase (project closure, project sustainability, outputs from the project, project documentation).

Aims

The aim of the course is to teach students to understand the terminology of project management based on the company's strategy to determine project objectives. Project objectives are determined for the purpose of innovation changes directly support the company's strategic objectives. Another goal is to teach students the tools and techniques of project management areas of contextual, technical and behavioral, which is necessarily for work of the project manager.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at the lectures is not obligatory, but it is recommended because the explanation will directly link the content of the exercises. Attendance at seminars is required. Students present the partial outputs of the semester work.
