Learning outcomes of the course unit

A student who successfully completes the A5 course understands the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation. They can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity, explain and present various topics, explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options with the focus on funcional language.

Prerequisites

The course is intended for students who are familiar with the language at B1 level.

Language instruction as an extension of basic professional curriculum.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

To pass this course it is necessary, apart from active participation in the class and individual home preparation, to pass the credit test, which is divided into three parts taken on pre-set dates throughout the semester. The maximum score is 50 points and in order to fulfil the credit requirements students must earn a minimum of 30 points. In case this benchmark is not achieved, there is a possibility for the student to resit the test.

Aims

The aim of the course is to teach the language skills needed by university students and company employees in a range of engineering branches.

Attendance at seminars is compulsory and is systematically checked by the teacher. Students are allowed to miss two seminars.
