English Aerial Phraseology

The basic course necessary to pass for pilot English language practise for VFR flights. Used English flight idioms are examined, e.g. shortcuts, meteorology, regulations, aircraft, navigation, airport, flight procedure, principles of radio communication, AFIS, transponder, emergency and urgent messages.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Gaining knowledge of English aerial phraseology at the level, which is sufficient for starting VFR flights with English communication. Obtaining the ability to pass the English exam for VFR pilots at CAA.

Prerequisites

The basic knowledge of English language – word order, negatives, There is/are, present simple tense, present continuous tense, future simple tense, past simple tense, passive voice, the adequate vocabulary.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions to obtain the course-unit credit: participation in the course (80% at the minimum), 50% success of two tests (always after the third of explained subject-matter). The exam is of written form-50 questions. Evaluation: correct answer = +2%, wrong answer = 0%, the final mark is set by grand total, in accordance with FME BUT rules.

Aims

The goal is to improve English in the area of aerial phraseology. Students will gain vocabulary that is necessary for the communication aircraft – land station. They acquire practical habits for using standard phraseology and the ability to understand broadcast with noises.

If a student does not fulfil the conditions for obtaining the course-unit credit, the teacher may (in justifiable cases) state compensatory conditions.
