Foundry Technology I

Basic methods applied to the production of castings. The course is giving the basic overview about all phases in casting manufacture taking into account choice of specific technology used, i.e. pattern equipment and the type of mould (permanent- non permanent).

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course provides students with basic knowledge of possibilities of using castings in different practical applications from their design and material point of view, taking into account also quality and economy of the final product.

Prerequisites

Basic principles of casting manufacture- knowledge obtained in 1st and 3rd year of the bachelorś study programme. Material science knowledge + appropriate parts of physics (liquid flow, thermomechanics, etc.)

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Attendance in lectures is recommended, attendance in exercises is obligatory.
Credit for exercises: semestr project - obligatory
Examination : written and oral exam.

Aims

The aim of the course is obtaining a general overview of different technologies for casting manufacture, taking into account both the type of mould and core used and also technology of mould filling by molten metal.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at lessons is obligatory. Absence may be compensated for by the agreement with the lecturer.

5.Clasification of foundry mould according to the binding systems used (1st - 4th Generation)
6.Moulds manufactured by 1st Generation (Clay binders)

8.2nd Generation of the moulds- self hardening systems
9.2nd Generation of the moulds- external hardening systems
10.Short overview of technologies using binders 3rd and 4th Generations
