Design Project Concept

FSI-YE1Acad. year: 2022/2023

The course is used to find new non-traditional product solutions aimed to the resulting original and well thoughtful design. The course focuses on the analytical and conceptual part of the design process and emphasizes the creation of the main ideas. The thematic content of the course is a conceptual solution of the design aspect of the product with a vision for the future, which will be implemented using design methods. The resulting design will respect the current commonly used, but also currently less common technologies with potential for the future. The output of the assignment is drawing documentation, presentation and conceptual model of the proposed solution in a suitable scale.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Ability to apply modern design methods in the design of the final solution.
Ability to identify essential problems and propose solutions.
Ability to critically evaluate a conceptual solution.
Ability of independent or collective design work.
Ability to present the achieved results in the form of their presentation.

Prerequisites

Ability to solve the design of simple industrial products and knowledge of sketching techniques. Knowledge and understanding of the basics of spatial creation, artistic composition and implementation of three-dimensional models.
Knowledge of modeling (eg: Rhinoceros, 3ds Max) and graphics programs (eg: Adobe).

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Workshop, periodically consulted design work in the form of individual or collective (2 to 3 people) problem solving, self-study.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Requirements for obtaining credit:
Active participation in exercises.
Submission of a completely developed project in digital (poster, presentation, visualization) and physical form (poster, conceptual model) within the set deadlines.
Requirements for passing the exam:
Successful defense of the project solution, in which the design of the concept and the level of presentation of the achieved results are evaluated.
The resulting classification is determined according to the ECTS scale. In total, up to 100 points can be obtained.

Aims

Students will focus on the initial stage of the design process on design methods, leading to the creation of thoughtful design concepts. Students will then be able to objectively select the most suitable solution from the created concepts, which will become the main idea of the final design. Emphasis on this stage of the design process will create a solid foundation for the concept itself.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance is mandatory and controlled by the teacher, a maximum of two excused absences per semester are allowed. In case of long-term absence, compensation for missed classes is in the competence of the subject guarantor.
