Course detail
FSI-YVRAcad. year: 2022/2023
The course is designed so that students learn the basic principles and methods of 3D sketching, modeling, visualization and presentation through virtual reality. Working in VR will enable students to effectively design more complex design solutions that will significantly enrich the design process itself and fundamentally improve the presentation quality of project outputs. At the same time, it will contribute to a highly realistic perception of the spatial-compositional relationships necessary for design creation and will improve the interactivity of the design process. It will also allow students to expand the spatial perception of the proposed products and their parts and more detailed monitoring of user context. Introducing students to the environment of virtual reality and working in virtual reality. Brief overview and acquaintance with software and hardware resources used in VR. Overview of SW tools for 3D sketching, modeling, visualization and presentation. Basic principles of creating 3D objects and procedures in modeling. Implementation and mapping of 3D models in the VR environment. Visualization and presentation with the help of the VR.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
The ability to control software and hardware resources that are used for virtual reality.Gaining basic experience with creating sketches, models, visualizations in virtual space. The ability to present design ideas through virtual reality. The ability to evaluate the created design using virtual reality.Improving the perception of spatial and compositional relationships is necessary for design and improving the interactivity of the design process. The ability of spatial perception of the proposed products and their parts and more detailed monitoring of user context.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of classic and digital sketching techniques.Knowledge of basic principles of 3D modeling.Knowledge and understanding of the basics of spatial creation and spatial models.Knowledge of modeling programs (eg: Rhinoceros, 3ds Max ...) and visualization programs (eg: Keyshot, V-ray ...).
Co-requisites
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Teaching is focused on theoretical and practical mastery of software and hardware tools of virtual reality. The course is taught in the form of a studio with the help of software and hardware, focused on the theoretical and practical use of virtual reality tools in the entire design process.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Conditions for granting a graded credit: compulsory attendance at scheduled hours, individual consultations with the teacher, submission of assigned tasks within the specified deadlines. Oral defense of processed tasks. For each task, the level of elaboration and the level of its presentation are evaluated separately. The final evaluation consists of the evaluation of tasks. In total, up to 100 points can be obtained. The resulting classification is determined according to the ECTS scale.

Aims
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the advantages of technological tools of virtual reality to achieve a higher level of presentation, aesthetic and technical outputs in the field of industrial design. Students will become familiar with virtual reality (VR), the environment and tools for sketching, modeling, visualization and presentation through VR. Students will gain an overview of the basic principles and technologies used in virtual reality. They will also gain theoretical and practical experience in creating and presenting their design projects using virtual reality tools.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Attendance is mandatory and controlled by the teacher, a maximum of two unexcused absences per semester are allowed. In case of long-term absence, compensation for missed classes is in the competence of the subject guarantor.
