Experimental Methods in Machining

The course deals with advanced methods of measuring and evaluating the accompanying phenomena of machining, especially in relation to the monitoring of the cutting process, data processing and their application in production automation.

Physics of metals, fundamentals of measuring, fundamentals of machining technology.

Prerequisites

Successful completion of the courses “Production Technologies II”, “Technology of Production and Computer Support of Technology”, good knowledge of fundamental methods of machining.

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline.

Presence in practicals - in maximum, data analysis, level of knowledge applied on an practical problem.

Aims

The fundamental aim is to teach and practise scientific methods of cutting phenomena assessment.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Recommended participations in lessons. Compulsory and checked participations in exercises and labs.According to the studied topic some lessons will be practicals - carried out in the lab, and some will be focused on the theory - calculations carried out in the classroom in a seminar form. Absence from seminars should be substituted for by attending a seminar with another study group or individually by the agreement with the teacher.

2. Wear of cutting tool, methods of direct and indirect measurement.
3. Heat and temeprature of cutting, measurement with thermo-camera.
4. Analytical metods of electron microscopy and its application on cuting.
5. Destructive and non-destructive method for residual stress assessment in machined surfaces.
