Functional Anatomy

The course builds on the basic knowledge of human anatomy and morphology. It deals with the physical activity of a person in terms of proper involvement of individual components of the musculoskeletal system, muscular activity, the creation of movement stereotypes, causes of movement stereotypes, the basics of correct movement and its control.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire important knowledge of functional anatomy and will be able to recognize basic functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
Graduate of the course will be able to design aids and instruments for examination of the locomotor apparatus. Learning outcomes of the course unit The subject will enable the student to know the functional nature of movement, which will be reflected in the student's readiness for the development of compensation aids and devices for patients after injuries and operations of the locomotive apparatus, after injuries and diseases of the nervous system. The graduate will know the basic terms and their relations in the area of ​​locomotive apparatus, movement control, movement stereotypes and pathological functional states. The practical exercise will verify the ability of students to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge in selected physical activities and activities.
The written exam verifies that the student is able to explain the basic terms and their relations in the area of ​​locomotive apparatus; describe basic investigative methods and pathologies in this area; describe basic exercise methods and their practical use; choose the appropriate approach and method for the issue in question; describe the essence of movement stereotypes, the origin and solution of their disorders; explain possibilities of improvement of physical activities during reversible damage of locomotive apparatus; explain the possibilities of compensatory aids and devices to compensate for reversible and permanent damage to the locomotor system.

Course curriculum

The course builds on the basic knowledge of human anatomy and morphology. It deals with the physical activity of a person in terms of proper involvement of individual components of the musculoskeletal system, muscular activity, the creation of movement stereotypes, causes of movement stereotypes, the basics of correct movement and its control.

1. Basic terms of functional anatomy of the locomotor system (joint and its components, muscle structure, anatomy according to muscle groups)
2. Movement in the joint (range of motion, causes of its limitation, causes of joint pain)
3. Muscle contraction and movement (types of muscle contraction, motion control, agonist, antagonist)
4. Foot and ankle (statics and dynamics of joints, spiral dynamics - principles, pathological conditions from overload, post-traumatic disorders and their solution, rehabilitation and compensation)
5.-6. Knee and hip joint; Spine and pelvic ring (statics and dynamics, overload congestion, post-traumatic conditions and their solution, rehabilitation, compensation)
7. Muscle interplay and movement stereotypes (muscle involvement in the movement chain, basic movement stereotypes, deep stabilization system, walking, standing)
8. The most frequent muscle imbalances their origin and solution (upper and lower cross syndrome, muscles with tendency to shorten, weaken, basics of stretching)
9. Joints of the upper limb (movement in the joints of the upper limb, interplay, pathological movement stereotypes, post-traumatic states, origin and solution, fine motor skills of the hand)
10. Motion disorders in neurological diseases (DMO, CMP, peripheral nerve injury, m. Parkinson)
11. Sensomotor training (exercises on labile surfaces, exercise with teraband, on physiobal, sensomotor training of upper and lower limbs) Working with own body (training and correction of movement stereotypes, substitute movement stereotypes in permanent damage of the locomotor apparatus)
12. Strengthening (workout in the gym, functional training, proper techniques, technical mistakes during exercise)
13. Atropometry, body composition.

Aims

Obtaining an overview of basic movement stereotypes, the functioning of the locomotive system as a whole, movement control, an overview of the most common muscle imbalances, post-traumatic conditions, neurological disabilities and their solutions.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Lecture, compulsory seminar, exceptionally possible after agreement with the teacher.
