Course detail
FaVU-1DS-2Acad. year: 2023/2024
This course is designed for learners who have already acquired the basic knowledge and skills in 3D printing and digital manufacturing and wish to develop further. In this course, learners will be introduced to advanced G-code setup, the process of creating more complex objects, advanced optimization options, cutting and then joining larger objects, creating assemblies and finishes. The course will also focus on developing the ability to analyze and evaluate the benefits and limitations of 3D printing and digital fabrication in various areas of art and design, including their impact on the aesthetics and functionality of the final work. Each session will focus on advanced setups of several of the most commonly used slicers (G-code generation software) and explain the differences and their relative advantages, clarifying the processes involved in FDM printing and their uses or complications in creating some specific shapes. Learners will also learn about multi-material printing and more advanced printer operation and setup. The learner will become familiar with the rules for working with assemblies and large objects made up of multiple interlocking parts (creating offsets, interlocks, appropriate choice of cutting plane, alignment fixtures), jointing options (gluing, welding, chemical bonding), joint and print defect retouching, and surface treatment options (abrasive, additive, chemical). At the end of the semester, the learner will focus on their own project.

Entry knowledge
Completion of 3D Printing and Digital Fabrication for Creative Industries 1 or your own previous 3D printing experience evidenced by submission of a portfolio prior to course registration.
Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
The following conditions are set for the award of credit:
Teaching takes place in the classrooms of the FFA BUT in the hours determined by the schedule. Attendance is compulsory (2 unexcused absences allowed). Higher number of absences can be compensated by submitting an alternative assignment after agreement with the teachers.
Aims
The aim of the course is to extend students' skills in working with 3D printing technology acquired in 3D Printing and Digital Fabrication for Creative Industries 1. The aim is to develop the ability to apply 3D printing and digital fabrication in a variety of art and design projects and to design creative and innovative solutions using these technologies.
Upon completion of the course, students will gain: a deeper understanding of 3D printing and related technologies; the ability to create more complex 3D models, taking into account material properties and printing limitations; the ability to connect 3D printing with other technologies; the ability to use 3D printing in their own art and design practice based on their experience in implementing a project using 3D printing from the design and preparation of the model to the final editing and presentation of the finished product
