Studio IV - Drawing and Printmaking - winter

The 4th year students are encouraged to expand their skills and critical formulation towards adequate theoretical reflection in contemporary art and graphics. Students utilize traditional graphic techniques which they develop and regroup into new media, reflecting more intensely current tendencies in art and visual culture. They should be able to pick specific tendencies to form own individual expression. Open-studio concept (accessible to the public) becomes the basis of methodology for helping students inspect current events. Students exhibit own art, discuss and present their current projects. They regularly communicate with the invited professionals.

Entry knowledge

Ability to individually process assigned task, ability to conceptualize processes associated with drawing and graphic techniques - processability, materiality, recording, reduction and their innovative creative transformation.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

In order to receive credit for the class, given conditions must be met:

-presence and participation in all mandatory regular consultations of semester projects (once a week)
-active participation in regular atelier projects and their consequent presentation (twice per semester)
-ability to reflect/accept recommendations resulting from consultations of semester projects
-fulfilling given tasks
-participation in atelier workshops and collaborative projects
-participation in the plenary
-evident interest in contemporary art

Presence is confirmed by signing the attendance list. One unexcused absence is allowed per semester.

Atelier exam is evaluated by a commission.


Mandatory regular consultation of semester project (weekly), active participation and presentation of created studio works at regular studio examinations (twice per semester), participating on studio workshops and collaborative studio projects, evident interest in the contemporary art.
Attendance list. Proven continuous work on the school premises.
A single absence at studio consultations is allowed.

Aims

This intermedially focused course is based on classical drawing and printmaking techniques which are constantly examined, verified and critically thematized in a broad context. Its aim is to develop individual artistic program which student achieves by working in the studio on own topics with clearly formulated intention, adequate to contemporary field problems and tendencies. Student is taught to pick advanced concepts or approaches to realization and examine them with the intention of bigger individual work.
Ability to find and create an atelier project for completing the bachelor degree program utilizing acquired graphic techniques skills aiming towards conceptual understanding of graphics and drawing. Advanced ability to critically judge an object of art, precise knowledge of Czech and world contemporary art. Ability to create an individual project requiring minimal supervision.

Syllabus

Independent and continuous studio work, regular studio consultations with the studio leader (every week), participation on the joint studio projects, active participation in the regular studio critiques (usually 2 per semester), participation in joint studio workshops, extracurricular art activities, presentation of semestral project in front of the commission, public presentation of the semestral project within open days Enter FaVU.

Schedule:
1. Definition of the topic of artistic research or the author's project (alteration in the form of a possible atelier assignment).
2. Brainstorming, artistic research, experimentation, verification, variation.
3. Presentation and defense of studio criticism.
4. Participation in all joint events - namely plain-air workshop, studio workshops, excursions and events according to the program of the entire studio.
5. Installation, presentation and defense of semestral work.
6. Participation in a public presentation on an open day.
