Course detail
FaVU-VK1-ZAcad. year: 2023/2024
Mastering drawing the human figure formally through various drawing techniques. Drawing itself is also a subject of interest - the course aims to develop and cultivate drawing skills in order to achieve maximum expression in drawing. "A steady hand and a steady eye" is a historically affirmed and inescapable principle, encompassing the full range of abilities and skills that profile a graduate of an art school with a fine art focus.

Entry knowledge
Basic knowledge of drawing hygiene (distance from the subject, distance from the picture surface). Knowledge of linear perspective, knowledge of aerial perspective, basic knowledge of art history.
Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
In order to be awarded credit, active participation in class (3 permitted unexcused absences) and the submission of an adequate number of drawings created in the life drawing classes is required.
Classes take place in the drawing room of the Cabinet of Traditional Media of the FaVU BUT in the hours determined by the timetable. Participation in the classes is required at least 80 %.
Aims
To teach students drawing skills and techniques that lead to successful and effective mastery of drawing the human figure and its construction (structure, proportion, anthropometry, anatomy and mechanics). To reinforce knowledge in drawing hygiene (laterality, spacing, etc.). The aim of the course is to clarify the basics of the use of line drawing techniques (contour, line) and tonal drawing techniques (positive, negative, combined, etc.). Representing the figure as a three-dimensional element on a two-dimensional surface helps develop the students' observational and analytical skills and imagination.
The course will enable students to develop their previously acquired skills in studio drawing in the more demanding drawing discipline of nude drawing.

Syllabus
In the same Life Drawing class, individual students have different skills in studio drawing. Different skills have to be taken into account and so, despite the significant number of drawers and common models, the teaching is essentially individual. In communication and in setting the specific individual task for a given lesson, the method of progressive steps from easier to more complex is always applied.
Beginning draughtsmen in particular will be given a demonstration of the effective and safe handling of paper, in cutting and anchoring it to the drawing mat. Demonstration of safe handling of the studio easel. Rehearsal of the principles of drawing hygiene - adequate distance from the model with regard to choice of motif, distance from the picture surface, consideration of drawing mat and paper format. Laterality and picture area, laterality and model.
Depending on the skills of the individual student, the LD1 syllabus will not only include the nude. Head drawing, bust and half figure will also be addressed where appropriate. In six cases these will be drawing studies.
