Cultural Values in Towns in History and the Present

FAST-TG52Acad. year: 2023/2024

During their studies, students will be acquainted with the process of town creation and history, the alterations to its structures in the individual stages of its development and the analysis which needs to be carried out for the perception and evaluation of cultural values. Similarly, present cultural values need to be analysed and unsuitable changes to valuable historical as well as contemporary structures need to be eliminated. The tools for the protection of the historical cultural heritage and historical structures need to be suitably used and set up in such a way that they don’t become obstacles in the region. Knowledge of the application of area protection of monuments, contemporary problems of reconstructions of existing structures and the principles by which an architect may exercise creativity in a historically valuable environment will be part of the taught content at the end of the semester.
During the teaching cycle, students will be acquainted with the creation and development of urban areas on our territory, the development of and changes to urban structures in the individual style periods up to the present. The subject of the tuition will also be the area protection of central parts and historically valuable structures, as is applied at present in the Czech Republic and in connection with international documents and agreements. The seminar tuition will be an application of the theoretical part of the tuition. It will be focused on the functional and spatial analysis of town structures and the setting of values which are important for the conception of the restoration and development of a region.
