Master Degree Seminar 2

The Master Degree Seminar 2 is the second of a pair of interrelated courses aimed at the theoretical part of the state final examination in the Master's programme. In this semester, the student builds on the already formulated topic of the master's theoretical thesis and the partially elaborated literature from the first part of the master's seminar. Writing is a key activity in this semester - students continue to make notes, extracts, etc., but also already develop the first sections of the essay text. Seminars are already limited this semester and focus mainly on comparing different stages and forms of elaboration of texts. The emphasis is mainly on individual work of the students and continuous consultation of the elaborated text.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Credit is awarded on the basis of active participation in seminars, regular submission of partial results of the thesis and submission of the final version of the text of the master's theoretical thesis.

 

Seminars are held in the classrooms of Art History and Theory Department of FFA in the hours determined by the schedule. Attendance is compulsory (1 unexcused absence is allowed). Consultations on work in progress are held either in the classrooms and cabinets of AHTD or online via MS Teams.

 

Aims

The aim of the course is to provide students with support and methodological guidance in writing a master's theoretical thesis, the defence of which (debate over the text and its topic) is the theoretical part of the state final examination.

 

After completing the course, students will be able to take the theoretical part of the state final examination. They will be able to reflect in their writing the knowledge and skills acquired in both semesters of the Master Degree Seminar and to integrate, as appropriate, knowledge from other subjects of the compulsory foundation into the Master's theoretical work.

Syllabus

  1. At the beginning of the semester, students are informed about the requirements for the intensity of consultation and the level of elaboration of the text, which are necessary for the award of credit.
  2. Later in the semester, there are alternating sections of individual work on texts, linked to ongoing consultation, and seminars in which more general issues and themes emerging from the overlaps between approaches and work are identified and discussed in guided discussions.
