The aim of the course is to acquire comprehensive knowledge about basic principles of design, possibilities and limits of a design of residential and communal buildings and to be able to apply the knowledge in courses of architectural studio and later in architectural practice.

• Students acquire a basic overview of building design and are oriented in basic characteristics and differences of typological types.
• Students orient themselves in the history, a contemporary state, tendencies and trends of architectural buildings.
• Students acquire the knowledge about operational, functional and spatial connections, allocation and urban context of simple buildings as well as complex residential and communal buildings.
• Students are able to design operational and functional links from a scale of simple buildings to complex municipal buildings.
• Students are able to apply basic normative standards in design of individual types of buildings.

Seminar work is evaluated by a credit. Students must submit all assigned work on time and in accordance with the assignment.
Examination will be taken in a written form and is evaluated by a grade.
Compulsory participation at seminars and submission of seminar work. Students excuse their absence for serious reason, they can compensate their absence by individual arrangement with the guarantor.
Compulsory participation at excursions. Students excuse their absence for serious reason, they cannot compensate their absence.
In the case of a student's apology and with approval of the supervisor, personal participation may be substituted with online participation in the studio.
