Course detail

Computational Simulations for Heat and Power Production

FSI-LSEAcad. year: 2024/2025

The content of the course is both an introduction to the basic principles of mathematical modeling and simulation, but especially an introduction to the basic software for practice using. These are software for modeling of flow and heat transfer, strength calculations, modeling of energy cycles or individual selected components, eg heat exchangers.
The course will also introduce basic databases of articles and search in these databases and extend the basic knowledge of output processing software (MS OFFICE).

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Entry knowledge

Basic knowledge of computing.
The student must have general knowledge of the field of construction and operation of power equipment and central units.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The course is evaluated in the form of classified credit.
Assessment is based on the submission of two semestral projects assigned and processed in two selected software.
Controlled participation in lessons: Exercises are compulsory. The student will be compensated for absence by agreement with the tutor.

Aims

The aim is to provide students with an overview of the principles of mathematical modeling and simulation in power engineering and to acquaint them with current and available software for power engineering practice. Further extend the soft-skills in the area of processing and presentation of the results of their work.
Students will get an overview of available software for engineering practice in power engineering and their basic properties. Upon completion of the course, they will be able to work in these software and develop their knowledge in case of interest. They will also have knowledge of searching in available knowledge databases and will process their outputs to the appropriate graphical level.
