The course introduces two related aspects of critical thinking in Czech Art History. The first part presents the first, the second, the third and the fourth wave of feminism and theis relations to art history. Artists such as Milada Marešová, Běla Kolářová, Veronika Bromová, Erika Bornová will be discussed as well as female historians and critics such as Renata Tyršová, Věra Jirousová, Martina Pachmanová and the Fourth Wave movement. The second part of the course introduces queer approaches to Czech art history with the analysis of art works of Jan Zrzavý, Toyen, Libuše Jarcovjáková, Jana Štěpánová, Mark Ther, collectors like Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic, Alberto di Stefano and writings by William Ritter, Václav Jamek, Martin C. Putna and others. The lectures will emphasize intersectionality of socially constructed identity politics.
