The course is designed as a series of lectures and follow-up practical exercises focused on creating with textile material. Each lecture will thematize the relationship between art and working with textiles. The emphasis is on individual selection of theoretical knowledge and practical activities. Within each class, learners will be introduced to working on industrial, domestic machines. The course will include the opportunity to work in a screen printing workshop in printing and patterning.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
The following conditions are set for the award of credit:
- active participation in class (2 permitted unexcused absences) or submission of an assignment based on the assignment in agreement with the teacher.
- submission of completed assignments.
Classes are held in the silk-screen and newly emerging textile workshop of the BUT Faculty of Arts in the hours determined by the schedule. Minimum participation is 85%. Making up for missed lessons takes place after agreement with the teacher in the form of individual consultations.
Aims
The aim of the Textile Design 1 course is to provide students with a basic orientation to key concepts, concepts and practical exercises in working with textile materials. It will familiarise them with why some works are seen as art and some only as craft and what other criteria can be used to label a work as art. Practical exercises will focus on technological practices related to traditional textile techniques, sustainability, recycling, upcycling in textile art work. The course will enhance learners' ability to think about textiles in their creative work. Emphasis will be placed on proper technological practices in textile and apparel making.
Completion of the course should help students to orient themselves in the field of textile design. In the environment of contemporary art theory and practice with references to contemporary art. The course will deepen the ability to think interdisciplinarily, reflecting for inspiration in one's own work.

Credit week – final lesson:
