Foundations and Printmaking – Screenprinting

The course is designed as a series of lectures and follow-up practical exercises focusing on screen printing techniques. In this course, attention is paid in particular to the technique of printing from direct and indirect stencils in one colour on paper and textiles. Within each class, students will be introduced to the work in the screen printing workshop and working procedures. The course will include the opportunity to work in the screen printing workshop during open hours. The student will understand methods of design processing and independent implementation. The student will gain the skills to apply and realise their own designs into a finished work of art with reference to contemporary artistic trends.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The following conditions are set for the award of credit:

- Attendance in class (2 permitted unexcused absences) or submission of an assignment based on the assignment in consultation with the lecturers.

- submission of completed assignments.

 

Classes are taught in the graphic design workshop of the FaVU BUT during the hours specified in the schedule. Minimum attendance is 85%. Make-up for missed lessons is done by agreement with the teacher in the form of individual consultations.

 

Aims

The aim of the course is to provide students with a basic orientation to the possibilities of desktop printing through practical exercises. The course will enhance students' ability to consider screen printing as a printmaking technique in the context of contemporary art. Emphasis will be placed on the correct technological procedures related to traditional printmaking techniques.

 

Upon completion of the course, students will be familiar with the procedures and possibilities of graphic techniques of printing from height. They will be aware of the place of print from height in the context of contemporary art theory and practice.

2. Preparatory designs of indirect analog templates for printing

3. Technique of analogue indirect stencils-creation of own designs, consultation

4. Technique of analogue indirect template-printing realization

5. Preparation of digital indirect template designs for printing

6. Digital indirect template technique-creating custom designs

7. Digital indirect template technique – přint production

8. Digital indirect template technique – print production

9. Preparatory designs of analogue or digital indirect templates for poster printing

10. Selected printing technique-creation of own designs, consultation

11. Choice of printing technique- implementation of printing

12. Selected printing technique- print realization

13. Final lesson: Students will submit a practical assignment according to the assignment formulated in the first third of the course. Each project will be discussed with the instructor.
