Course detail

2D Machining 1 – Laser and CNC technology

FaVU-1-2DO-1Acad. year: 2024/2025

The course is focused on introducing the possibilities of laser burning and 2D milling using a CNC router. It includes an explanation of the principles involved in both 2D machining methods and their practical verification during workshops. It introduces the rules for creating master files in Rhinoceros, including the simple creation of 2D documentation. It also presents selected procedures for creating spatial objects from planar elements using construction joints. Learners should gain the necessary knowledge for further independent preparation of source files and try working with real machines under pedagogical supervision.

Entry knowledge

Basic knowledge of working with a personal computer, ability to navigate in virtual space, patience and discretion. Experience with 3D programs (Blender, Maya, Rhino, etc.) is desirable, but not a requirement. Basic English, manual dexterity.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The following conditions are set for the award of credit:

  • Attendance at classes and active participation in workshops
  • Work on practical assignments and projects
  • Continuous submission of work outputs

Teaching takes place in the classrooms of the FFA BUT in the hours determined by the schedule. Attendance is compulsory (2 unexcused absences allowed). Higher number of absences can be compensated by submitting an alternative assignment after agreement with the teachers.

Aims

Introducing students to the technology of planar machining. Get them acquainted with this technology and introduce them to the basic rules for the correct preparation of the source data in Rhinoceros software.

After completing the course, learners will gain knowledge of the laws and pitfalls of 2D laser and CNC machining methods and practical experience with them. They will be able*to prepare supporting data and simplified 2D documentation.
