Automotive Cybersecurity

The course includes topics related to the cybersecurity of vehicles and their internal and external communication. These topics are: cybersecurity of vehicles, basics of applied cryptography for automotive cybersecurity, security protocols used in IoV, secure data repositories and databases in IoV, secure intra-vehicle and inter-vehicle communications, vehicle authentication and access control, voice authentication in vehicles, security voice services in vehicles, security standards in automotive cybersecurity, privacy protection and legal aspects in IoV and other selected topics such as smart parking services, an interaction vehidle to grid, etc.

Entry knowledge

The course requires a basic knowledge in the areas of telecommunications, programming and cybersecurity in ICT.

 

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The maximum of 10 points is given upon completion of the laboratory assignments. The completion of an individual project adds upto 20 points. The requirements on the completion of the tasks in laboratories and projects are described in the annual supervisor’s notice. The maximum of 70 points can be gained during the final written exam.
The conditions for the successful course completion are stated in the yearly updated supervisor’s notice.

Aims

The aim of this course is to introduce the necessary basics of cybersecurity, cryptography and security protocols applied in the areas of internal and external communication in Internet of Vehicles. Further, the course presents authentication and access systems used in vehicles and applied biometric methods in modern vehicle applications. Finally, standards and legislative aspects, privacy protection and other special selected topics covering other aspects of cybersecurity in IoV and automotive cybersecurity are introduced.

The student will gain the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of cybersecurity of vehicles. Students learn about the basics of applied cryptography for automotive cybersecurity, security protocols used in IoV, secure data repositories and databases in IoV, and external and internal vehicle communications. They will get acquainted theoretically and practically with methods of authentication and access control in vehicles, voice authentication in vehicles and voice services used in vehicles. Students will also gain an overview of the basic standards and legal aspects related to IoV cybersecurity. With this knowledge, students will be able to design and implement secure advanced telecommunication services for various IoV applications and set the basic internal and external protection in vehicle cybersecurity.
