Using the Laws of Nature in Engineering Applications

FEKT-MPC-VPZAcad. year: 2024/2025

Emphasis in the course is placed on understanding the basic physical principles of mechanics, optics, astrophysics and electrical engineering. Students will learn the fundamentals of scientific work and understand the use of natural phenomena in a wide range of applications in areas of everyday life. They will expand their general knowledge of physics with respect to commonly observed phenomena not included in basic physics courses. Emphasis is placed on understanding the subject matter, application of the knowledge given, and practical experience with physics.

The following topics will be presented during the semester:The scientific/engineering approach to investigating the world, the nature of scientific work, the methodology of science, models and reality, principles of experimental work, the ethics of science, and the responsibility of the scientist. Mechanics of apparent forces - bearing sizing, gyroscope, sensors Mechanics of vibrations - musical instruments, elimination of vibrations, collapse of structures due to vibrations, Wave optics - optical cables, interference filters, interferometers in applications, polarization of light and its applications. Beam optics - optical instruments (human eye, telescope microscope), imaging defects of lenses (classification/elimination), depth of field, apertures. Meteorology - pressure formations, synoptics, cyclone, anticyclone, cloud cover, frontal systems Physical principles of energy harvesters - ceramic and polymer energy harvesters for SELF POWER electronics Theory of relativity, Einstein's law of gravitation, origin and main features of this theory, its subsequent development, areas of application Our Galaxy - the big bang, the structure and origin of stars, the evolution and final stages of stars Quantum physics and interesting examples - CERN, dark matter measurements, solar propulsion, solar wind sailing ships Particles and waves in the service of science - optical tweezers, laser cooling, cryptography Physics in electrical engineering - wearable electronics, solar cell function, peltier effect and laser diode Physics in medicine: X-ray, ultrasound, lasers, gamma knife, CT, PET, NMR Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
