English for Bachelors - Intermediate 1

- it includes a grammar section with communicative tasks highlighting new grammar rules
- it covers reading, listening, speaking and writing
- it extents current vocabulary
- it develops grammar knowledge
- it includes work with technical texts putting emphasis on language

Entry knowledge

The student signed up for the class is expected to be able to:

-  use a basic general vocabulary (job/work, the environment, graphs, everyday use objects)
- apply grammar rules to common situations (making questions, the present tense, the past tense, the future tense, the present perfect tense, modal verbs, conditionals, passive voice)
- speak clearly in a given context with error tolerance
- read and understand easier general and technical texts
- understand classes taught in English and easier spoken English in given contexts

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

semester test (40 points), it contains grammar and vocabulary
final exam (60 points), it contains listening and reading a technical text
The content and forms of instruction in the evaluated course are specified by a regulation issued by the lecturer responsible for the course and updated for every academic year.

Aims

The English class is focused mainly on:

- acquisition of new vocabulary
- developing grammar knowledge.
- developing the language skills (reading, speaking, listening and writing)
- introducing and revising common phrases of spoken English
- work with semi-technical texts
Active participation in classes along with passing a written exam will show that a student is able to:

-  use a specific and general vocabulary (job/career, business, graph description, )
- apply grammar rules to common situations (present tenses, past tenses, the present perfect tense, the future tense, making questions, making comparatives and superlatives)
-  communicate fluently and effectively in different contexts with certain error tolerance (job/career, travelling, business, social situations) and express his/her opinion,   agreement, disagreement
- read technical and general articles when using basic reading techniques (skimming, scanning, selection of relevant information, accurate comprehension)
- understand English instructions and classes taught in English, and take notes; understand natural spoken English in a certain context
