Vehicle testing

FSI-QTTAcad. year: 2024/2025

The course focuses on the issue of testing modern passenger and commercial vehicles, testing their driving characteristics and other characteristics. It is focused on the practical implementation of the aforementioned tests of vehicles of various concepts and powertrain types. It includes activities that demonstrate the complete process of vehicle testing, i.e. the preparation and calibration of the measuring chain, the preparation of the software for the control of the experiment and data collection, the implementation of the complete vehicle tests and the detailed analysis of the data. Modern approaches and tools are used for all these activities - IMU unit with vehicle GPS system (including RTK station), miniaturized accelerometers, high-resolution data loggers including connection to the vehicle's CAN-BUS system, specialized software for rapid data analysis and automated evaluation of large volume of data, etc. Practical demonstrations are directed to the areas of vehicle controllability, longitudinal dynamics, driving comfort and characteristics of the vehicle's drivetrain.

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Entry knowledge

Basic knowledge of vehicle dynamics, experimental methods, vehicle construction and individual vehicle groups design is assumed.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The exercises are finished with a graded credit, which is awarded based on the evaluation of the completed independent task. This consists in processing the measured data of one of the implemented driving tests. The task is not only to process the data in the specified way, but also to draw conclusions in relation to the tested parameters and characteristics of the vehicle during the conducted test.

Exercises are compulsory, and the form of replacing the missed lessons is solved individually by the lecturer or with the course guarantor.

Aims

The objective of the course is to provide mastery of the process and logical connections in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of vehicle testing. At the same time, students will learn about current trends in the field of measuring systems and their use for the implementation of tests according to the relevant standards.

Student will acquire basic knowledge in the field of vehicle testing, which will enable him to be eruditely involved in the automotive field in the solution of various technical problems, where the implementation of an experiment is necessary primarily in relation to the driving of the vehicle itself.
