Communication and presentation skills

The subject is focused on the practical acquisition of communication and presentation skills. The content included in the course syllabus will provide students with an overview of the basic principles and techniques of spoken expression and provide relevant and tactful feedback. Each student will have the opportunity to try out various techniques in front of a small audience within the study group. The course emphasizes demonstrative examples of the discussed topics and subsequent practice in front of the study group. The knowledge and experience gained in the course can help graduates present their final papers, projects, and their ideas and thoughts more effectively and confidently.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Terms of graded credit: 
− active participation in exercises,
− deliver a short speech or presentation on a chosen topic using the knowledge acquired during the semester.

Participation in seminars is mandatory. Two absences are allowed in the exercises. A longer absence is replaced by a special assignment according to the instructions of the teacher.

Aims

Students will acquire the principles and techniques of spoken expression and communication, including:
− ability to provide relevant and tactful feedback,
− ability to prepare and deliver effective and engaging speeches,
− knowledge of techniques for reducing nervosity,
− ability to effectively utilize nonverbal communication and work with the audience.

Graduates will be able to apply the gained knowledge and experience in their professional and personal lives.

  2. Creating a speech or a presentation – fundamental pillars and content optimization.
  3. Presentation, working with the audience and space.
  4. Personal, telephone, and email communication – principles and recommendations. Persuasion techniques.
  5. Nonverbal communication – facial expressions, gestures, eye contact.
  6. Dealing with stress and nervousness. Relaxation and warm-up techniques.
  7. Effective and tactful feedback and evaluation.
  8. Delivery of a short speech / presentation on any topic. Individual and group feedback.
  9. Building your style and personality. Habits and routines.
  10. The role of emotions in communication and presentation.
  11. Team meetings and discussions – effectively and purposefully. Basic principles of moderation.
  12. Delivery of a short speech / presentation on any topic using the knowledge and experience gained during the course. Individual feedback.
