Introduction to the problem of numerical modelling
Numerical methods of solution:
- water flow in 2D and 3D,
- advection-dispersion,
- dam-break of fill dams,
- stability of water structures.

Aims

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with principles of numerical modeling. The students will obtain knowledge about numerical solutions of flow of water, water quality and static of water structures.
Students complete goal of this course which include getting up principles of numerical modelling of water flow. Also students get experience in numerical modelling through term projects.

1st Course introduction. 2nd Numerical methods for the solution f selected problems. 3 to 7 Flow modelling in 2D and 3D (ANSYS/FLOTRAN). 8th Modelling of advection-dispersion processes (MIKE11, Znec). 9th Plain deformation of concrete dam (ANSYS). 10th Dam break of fill dams as a result of overtoping.

1 to 2 Solution of simple problems of water flow using a spreadsheet. 3 to 7 Numerical modeling of flow in 2D and 3D (ANSYS / FLOTRAN). 8th Numerical modeling of spreading pollution in the software HEC, Mike11, Znec. 9th Plain strain of the concrete dam (ANSYS). 10th Numerical modeling of rockfill dams breach as a result spill in a spreadsheet.
