The course is aimed at enhancing students’ professional knowledge and skills, improving their individual creative work and enabling them to apply basic scientific knowledge, methods and the theory behind the composition of the Master’s thesis in the writing of the thesis, its presentation, and the defence of the results and conclusions resulting from it.
Therefore, the course is not only about the enhancement of students' knowledge with regard to the search for information sources, the literature review, information retrieval, and correct citation. It is also about the planning of the entire process of thesis creation and provides familiarity with the principles behind such work both on the formal level and from the perspective of content. The aim is to acquaint students with the latest knowledge and enable them to learn the principles of effective creative work.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in Article 7 of the BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.
It is also necessary to meet these requirements: participation in seminars, and the fulfillment of the conditions of regular reviews of the students’ work on their MT assignments (the creation of an MT project, the definition of the problem, objectives, methods and solutions, the performance of a review of domestic and foreign source literature, critical analysis of the current status, the processing of results, and design troubleshooting).

Aims

The provision of basic knowledge that will aid students in preparing their Master’s thesis at the level of quality required.
Students will be able to perform all activities needed to produce a Master’s thesis at the required level of quality, including the analysis of the latest theoretical knowledge based on information retrieved from domestic and foreign sources, the identification of the key problems of solutions, and the use of critical design analysis and its application to the solution of a given problem. It also covers the planning and performance of the students’ own research and their analysis of potential options for the solution of the problem, along with the drawing of conclusions based on the obtained results, including their interpretation, presentation and defence.

Syllabus

The course is designed for to support students in their independent creative work on their Master’s thesis under the supervision of their tutor during practical lessons held for a given number of hours during the pertinent semester. The course includes regular consultation sessions and the verbal evaluation of progress on assignments.
