Protection and Renovation of Monuments

The lectures are focussed on legislation related with the protection of monuments, on cultural heritage and its transformation in the course of historical style periods, and on the synopsis of some building techniques and technologies. The aim is to acquaint the students with the methods of monument protection, to impart to them the knowledge needed for architectural design in the context of historical environment, as well as the ways of preserving, renovating and reusing cultural monuments. For the architect this knowledge and these skills are indispensable with view to the high percentage of building activities being implemented in the historical environment, and to the increasing emphasis put on its protection and preservation.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The problems dealt with require students'attendance of lectures, individual presentations and analyses of examples of endangered industrial areas of South Moravia.

Aims

The objective is to make the students acquainted with the methods of cultural monuments protection, conservation, renewal and new use, and to impart them the knowledge needed for architectural design in the historic enwironment. For an architect, this knowledge is necessary with regard to the high proportion of construction implemented in the historic environment and to the increasing pressure to its protection and conservation.
