Syllabus

1. Environmental compartments, anthropogenic activities and influence on natural systems. 2. Fundamentals of waste legislation, terminology of waste management. Circular economy, LCA. Sources and types of waste, treatment strategies. 3. Waste analysis. 4. Environmental biotechnology, basic terms, processes. Composting I. 5. Environmental biotechnology: composting II, vermicomposting. 6. Environmental biotechnology: anaerobic digestion. 7. Thermal methods of waste treatment – incineration. 8. Thermal methods of waste processing – pyrolysis, gasification, product recovery. 9. Landfilling. 10. Waste types, source of waste, hazardous waste, solidification, tailings impoundment. 11. Industrial activities and waste. 12. Plastic waste and its recycling. 13. Alternative technologies of waste treatment, new waste types.
