Zelená chemie a zelené technologie

The course will provide knowledge of green chemistry, a modern view of chemical processes - principles of green synthesis, rational design of molecules, replacement of organic solvents with environmentally friendly variants, use of ionic liquids.

The course will also study the environmental impact of human activity and chemical production and how to minimize it (waste management, greenhouse gas effect on the environment, use of renewable and secondary resources). The possibilities of replacing common polymeric materials with bio-inspired and bio-degradable variants will also be presented in order to reduce the environmental impact.

Students take a written exam. 

Aims

The students will understand the principles of green chemistry and their importance to the current and future economy.  They will be familiar with the main principles of environmentally friendly practice in modern chemistry. Students will be able to discuss the impact of chemical production and everyday use of chemical products on the environment and society. They will be introduced to strategies for reducing these impacts (use of renewable resources or bio-degradable materials, streamlining chemical processes).

In addition, students will gain an overview of terminology and a basic orientation in the field, enabling them to read and understand the literature independently.
