Advanced ceramics technologies

This course deals with the technological basics of advanced bulk polycrystalline ceramics. The emphasis is put on principles of the processes and on advantages and limits of particular methods resulting from these principles. Modern processing methods such as additive manufacturing methods and CNC milling of ceramic blanks are also included in the technology overview.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The course is completed by the oral doctoral exam. Knowledge of technological procedures for selected ceramic parts is verified.

Aims

The aim of the course is to aquire the basic overview of advanced ceramic technologies including the latest trends in manufacturing of bulk polycrystalline ceramics. Students will learn of principles of particular methods, their advantages and limits.
Participants of the course will be able to analyse processing needs of a particular ceramic part and select the appropriate processing method for the required application.
