Culture Lab

The course consists of seminars where students will focus themselves with the research and analysis of existing urban and architectural places and capture this with drawing techniques and texts to be able to make architectural publications.
The course emphasizes the understanding of analysis and publication of built work and urban design.
The classes are based on individual work with communal agreements within the workgroups. During the semester students will analyze, draw and publish two locations in a joined publication within one agreed upon graphical style.
The main aim is to learn how to make a publication with a small team of contestants.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Evaluation consists of submitted semestral work and its presentation.
80% attendance is compulsory. Students must develop, consult and submit a semestral work.
In the case of a student’s apology and with approval of the subject guarantor, personal attendance may be substituted with online attendance in the classes.

Aims

The aim of the seminar is to let students be part of a research lab that has the aim to investigate, analyse, document and critique the deeper cultural heritage and architectural layers of the city of Brno. This all with the focus on how we can harvest data and information that is to be published into an architectural publication. For this students conduct research and analysis on site, in archives and online.
We will corporate with a publisher and understand how to process information and convert research into visual material to make it feasible for architectural publications. Coorporation with several local cultural and heritage organizations will be part of the seminar.
