Basic concepts of musical acoustics, music notation, tempo, expression and dynamic signs, aliquot tones, and tuning musical instruments. General music theory. Scales, chords, tonality.

Knowledge from field of general education is required, on whose basis student passed the admission procedure.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Evaluation of study results follows Rules for Studies and Examinations of BUT and Dean's Regulation to the Rules for Studies and Examinations of BUT. Credit is given for successful demonstration of knowledge in an interview. Credit is awarded for successful completion of a written test that consists of 100 questions, each worth 1 point. To be successful, it is necessary to obtain at least 60 points.
To obtain the credit it is necessary to complete at least 10 exercises during semester. Other forms of the checked instructions are specified by a regulation issued by the guarantee of the course and updated for every academic year.

Aims

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic concepts of music theory necessary for further study of (eg. Scales, intervals, chords, chord turnovers), basic introduction to musical instruments.
Students are able to:
- Define basic concepts of musical acoustics,
- Define basic musical concepts,
- Understand the scales of major / minor,
- Understand intervals and their turns,
- Understand musical instruments.
