The course aims to extend and deepen the students' knowledge of the English language grammar and phonetic system, including the terminology associated with these areas. It focuses on the elimination of the most frequent errors (Czenglish) and appropriate usage of formal and informal expressions. The students apply the theoretical knowledge in a number of practical tasks during the course of the semester (presentations, miniessays, etc.).

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
The assessment consists of:
- Homework assignments (50 points): several tasks in phonetics and grammar assigned during the course of the semester; the details are specified in elearning
- Graded credit (50 points): written and oral parts.
Aims
The course aims to deepen the students' knowledge of the English grammar, help the students eliminate the most common grammatical errors, and improve their pronunciation skills and spoken fluency.
Grammar: the students deepen their knowledge of the English grammar and are able to apply it in both speaking and writing. They are able to utilize stylistically appropriate means of expression across various written and spoken genres.
Phonetics: the students understand the basic phonetic and phonological concepts and learn the basics of IPA transcription. They understand how the sounds of English are articulated and eliminate most of the frequent pronunciation errors from their spoken English.

Grammar: parts of speech, nouns (countability, plurals), articles, verb tenses, sentence elements, the passive, complex sentences and punctuation, conditionals, prepositions, typical Czech errors
Phonetics: basic terminology, IPA, dialects of English, vowels, consonants, suprasegmentals (word stress, intonation, linking), typical Czech pronunciation errors
