Mode of study

Not applicable.

Entry knowledge

Knowledge of electrotechnical materials on the level of the bachelor's courses.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

up to 40 points during the semester (12 points from laboratory seminars, 14 points from calculation and 14 points from individual work and its presentation)
up to 60 points from written final exam
Final exam is focused on verification of knowledge in the field of environment agents impacts on properties of electrical materials.
Obligatory participation in teaching.

Aims

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with climatic zones of the world, with effects of climate factors on properties of engineering materials, with techniques of materials and devices protection and with methods, which ensure the life-time of devices in unfavorable climatic and operating conditions.
At the end of the course, the student will be able to:
- characterize individual climatic zones of the Earth,
- describe impact of environment agents on properties of electrical materials,
- describe degradation of materials due to temperature and electric stress mathematically,
- realize necessary steps to guarantee demanded lifetime of electrical equipment in environment with extreme climate and working conditions,
- project optimal materials and methods of electrical equipment's protection in environment with unfavorable working conditions.
