Course detail
Electromagnetic Compatibility
FEKT-MPA-VECAcad. year: 2025/2026
The course is focused on the following areas of electromagnetic compatibility: Basic concepts of electromagnetic compatibility. Interference sources, receivers and transmission paths. Level reduction and reduction of interfering signals. Technical means to improve the resistance of electronic devices to natural and artificial interfering signals, electrostatic discharges and industrial interference. Experimental verification and testing of electromagnetic compatibility, national and international standards, technical means, homologation criteria, different requirements for the automotive industry. Specifics of electric vehicle design. Laboratory measurement of electromagnetic interference and immunity testing of electrical devices. Teaching is complemented by an excursion in a professional EMC testing laboratory.

Entry knowledge
The subject knowledge on the Bachelor’s degree in the technical field is requested.
Work in the laboratory is conditioned by a valid qualification of "instructed worker" according to announcement 50/1978 Coll., which students must obtain before the start of teaching. Information on this qualification is given in the Dean's Directive regarding Familiarization of students with safety regulations.
Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
Evaluation of activities is specified by a regulation, which is issued by the lecturer responsible for the course annually.
Aims
The graduate is able (1) understand basic the fundamentals of EMC, basic concepts and problems of EMC. He or she is able to identify (2) EMI signal sources of disturbing signals, coupling mechanisms of EMI signals, arts of coupling, radiated emission. He or she is able to design (3) filtering, isolation and suppression of Emi signals. The graduate is able to use (4) techniques for EMI reduction, EMC filtering, EM shielding, shielding effectiveness, magnetic shielding and cable shield. The graduate is able to (5) provide EMI measurements, EMS testing and used methods and instruments according to EMC standards and regulations, international, national and military standards.
