Syllabus

1. Recording electrodes, electrode polarization, electrode types.
2. Instrumentation requirements, general characteristics, sources of interference and sources of potential error.
3. EEG electroencephalography, principle and characteristics of the device, methods of sensing signals from the brain and their classification, other devices needed for diagnosis (photostimulator, phonostimulator).
4. Electromyography EMG, principle and characteristics of the device, method of sensing and analysis of myopotentials, stimulators.
5. Electrical diagnostic methods for diagnosis of the eye, electrooculography EOG, electroretinography ERG.
6. Diagnostics of the eye, periemetry, intraocular pressure, ultrasound biometry, fundus camera.
7. Diagnostics of the auditory organ, subjective and objective audiometry, tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions.
8. Invasive methods of measuring blood pressure at different sites in the bloodstream.
9. Spirometry, measurement of residual volume, pneumotachographs.
10. Plethysmography - methods of measuring volume changes.
11. Measurement of temperature
12. Basic monitoring techniques, function of monitors and link to hospital information system.

Connecting a battery-powered ECG with the AD620
ECG acquisition with Vernier and analysis in LabView
Muscle activity measurement and analysis in LabView
Measurement of tidal volumes in LabView
Oscillometric blood pressure measurement in LabView
Auscultatory blood pressure measurement - circuit design and implementation
PPG measurement - circuit design and implementation with optocoupler
