English for FCE 1

The English course focuses on the development of reading, listening, speaking and writing skills with an emphasis on the acquisition of grammatical structures and vocabulary at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It is based on teaching materials and requirements of the international exam First Certificate in English (FCE). The subject is taught by means of practical language exercises with emphasis on practicing communication skills and developing knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.

Knowledge of English for General Purposes at level B2 CEFR is required.

 

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Classified credit requirements:

- 75% active class participation,

- a credit test: language competences (max. 40 points, min. 20 points), listening (max. 30 points, min. 15 points), reading (max. 30 points, min. 15 points).

 

Aims

The aim of the course is to develop linguistic competences necessary for fluent and independent use of English for General Purposes at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in everyday working and social situations as a prerequisite for passing the international exam First Certificate in English (FCE). 
The student uses English language as an independent user at B2 CEFR level, knows and uses language means for the description of people and places, discusses the roles of individuals in the society and characterizes different jobs, communicates in situations connected with travelling, discusses the problems of the tourism industry and its impact on the region, is able to talk about psychological topics in a broader social context, uses grammatical structures according to the requirements of the given level and course syllabus.
