Metallurgy of Cast Iron

Grades and properties of cast iron, structure, crystallization. Chemical composition. Mechanical, physical a technological properties. Alloyed cast irons. Melting equipment, metallurgical processes. Production of lamellar  spheroidal and vermicular graphite iron and malleable iron. Raw materials, composition of charge. Control of chemical composition, thermoanalysis, control of mechanical properties. Metallurgicaly based defects.

Credit: Attendandance and appropriate knowledges in courses, passing 2 tests in the course
of semester
Exam: Credit, numerical part of exam, verbal part of exam
2 tests in the period of semestr, compensation of absence - by personal agreement with teacher

Aims

The aim of course is to get knowlidges about structure and properties of different cast iron grades, principle of melting process in particular melting furnaces, metal quality control and analysis of metallurgical defects.
Ability to operate metalurgical processes by melting different cast iron grades, heat treatment and quality control
