Course detail

Selected chapters from machine design – mechanical drives

FSI-0KUAcad. year: 2025/2026

The course extends and deepens skills especially in solving computational problems in the field of transmissions such as gears, belt, chain and rope drives, shaft couplings, brakes and flywheels. The course is a complement to the lecture, practice and home preparation of the course Machine design - mechanical drives (6KT).

Language of instruction

Czech

Number of ECTS credits

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Entry knowledge

Knowledge:

  • materials science (choice of materials),
  • statics (load analysis),
  • elasticity and strength (stress and strain analysis),
  • basics of design (creation of drawing documentation),
  • design of machine parts (bearings, joints).

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The course is classified with course-unit credit. The condition for obtaining it is more than 60% attendance at lectures. In the case of a collision with the class schedule or in other justified cases, the lectures can be taken as online streams.

Lectures: attendance at lectures is mandatory and controlled by the lecturer. In case of long-term absence, the replacement of missed classes is the responsibility of the course supervisor.

Aims

Graduates will be able to analyze and design basic machine components used to transmit power and rotary motion, such as gears, shaft clutches, brakes and flywheels.

  • Knowledge of the principle and use of basic transmission mechanisms.
  • Ability to solve computational problems related to transmission mechanisms design.
  • Ability to apply the acquired knowledge in the design of new machines and devices.
