Sensors

The course provides students with an overview of the basic principles of sensors used, their parameters and designs. It covers instrumentation, concepts and procedures for measuring physical (non-electrical) quantities. Using examples from industrial practice, it presents in particular the specifics of these measurements and their differences from conventional electronic measurements of electrical quantities.

Work in the laboratory is conditioned by a valid qualification of "instructed worker" according to Decree No. 50/1978 Coll., which students must obtain before starting the course. Information on this qualification is given in the Dean's Guideline Familiarizing Students with Safety Regulations

The definition of supervised teaching and the way it is carried out is set out in the annually updated decree of the course guarantor (introductory lecture). Laboratory instruction is compulsory; one missed laboratory exercise may be made up by arrangement.
Aims
Absovent is able to:
- Know the principles of basic type of the sensors
- Know the principles of methods for measuring mechanical quantities (dimension, velocity, acceleration, force, torque), flow, temperature, radiation
- Use electrical measuring instruments
- Design and implement measurement of physical quantities
- Know the procedures for processing the measured data and their evaluation
- Make qualified conclusions about the specific measurement
Course graduate should get basic knowledges and facilities in sensor field and the most commonly measured non-electrical quantities, include measurement concept design and results process and evaluaiton.

Syllabus
The content of the laboratory exercises of the SNI course is an introduction to selected types of sensors and measurement methods in the form of 8 laboratory exercises. Two students work together on one laboratory exercise. Thus, each pair of students completes only 4 laboratory exercises during the semester. For the first lab problem 3 exercises are available, each subsequent problem must be measured in 2 exercises. The assessed student outcome is 3 lab reports and 1 public presentation of the measured problem. The laboratory report of the first and second assignment will be prepared jointly by both students. The third problem will be prepared by the first student of the pair as a protocol, and the second student as a presentation. For the fourth problem, the second student will turn in the protocol and the first student will present the problem.
