The subject is divided into two parts. The first one covers building materials, the second offers knowledge of geology. The subject's aim is to acquaint the students with the fundamental physical and utility properties of materials, and with the technologies of their production and application. The study covers the technology of concrete, production of building ceramics, the knowledge of wood, glass, binders, mortars, metals, insulation materials, technologies of surface treatment, sealants, adhesives and paints. The classes are followed by tutorials in laboratories. The part devoted to geology covers the fundamentals of petrography, the knowledge of the external and internal geological forces, geological action of water , and the foundation of buildings.
