Graphic Techniques

The objective is to get acquainted with various classic graphic techniques and their potential use, with view to their possible alternative application to the presentation of architectural designs. The objective is the mastering by the students of the simple techniques and their possible use, with view to colours and their exchange ( linocut, monotype). Study of the effect of colours and their combination on the expression of the final image. Ways of making monotype by multiplication of print from a small matrix, its modification and expressive potential. Transition to more complex techniques - gravure printing. Evaluation of the possibilities of the classic graphic expression in relation to computer graphics, and of the expedience of their combination.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The objective is to get acquainted with various classic graphic techniques and their potential use, with view to their possible alternative application to the presentation of architectural designs. Mastering of the simple techniques and their possible use, with view to colours and their potential exchange ( linocut, monotype). Orientation in the effects of colours and their combination on the expression of the final image. Knowledge of making monotype, its modification and expressive potential. Knowledge of to more complex techniques - gravure printing. Ability to assess the potential of the classic graphic expression in relation to computer graphics, and the possibilities and expedience of their combination.

Prerequisites

No special knowledge is reaquired for mastering the subject.
Beneficial is permanent interest in plastic arts, culture and cultural events in general.
Experiance in drawing gained at previous tutorials may speed up the command of the knowledge aimed at.
Important is the interest in the subject, capability of concentration,and a certain extent of talent for plastic art.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

After submission of a complex of works assigned according to the subject's contents. At least one or several submitted works should exhibit creative art quality enabling the subject's respectable presentation by exhibition.
Two weeks' absence is tolerated (without giving reasons).
Evaluated is the fulfilment of objectives assigned in the individual weeks.

Teaching takes place in the studio of the Institute of drawing and modelling, in classes defined by the subject's plan and schedule.
