Sociology

The subject's aim is to make the students acquainted with the basic sociological aspects of architectural and urban design, and to impart them the basic knowledge of demography and sociology, which is relevant to architecture and urban design.
The subject is divided in two parts. In the first one, the students get acquainted with the fundamentals of sociology and demography in relation to architecture and urban design. In the second part, they get a deeper insight into some problematic phenomena of today's cities with view to sociology and social geography .

Learning outcomes of the course unit

By attending the lecture, the student gains an overview of the social problems connected with urban planning, information on disciplines, institutions and experts engaged in these interdisciplinary problems, and ability to understand the results of their studies

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the main urban development processes, interest in extending the knowledge of relating disciplines, ability to orientate oneself in foreign-language (primarily English)
texts.

Aims

The objective is to make the students acquainted with basic sociological notions compiled with view to the needs of urban planning and, on the basis of research projects focused on sociology and social geography, with the social aspects of urbanisation processes.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
