Sustainable Development

Basic principles of Sustainable Development (SD), Terms, Timelina of SD, conception, principles, main aims, values and rules, strategy of SD. Global problems of mankind (change of climate, ozone depletion, pollution of air, fresh waters, oceans, soil and change of biodiversity). Importance Declaration, Convention of SD (Agenda 21, Kyoto protocol commitments, Millennium Ecosystem Assessment). Characteristic features of plans of SD, indicators of SD, methods to measure and reach SD. Activities of the European Union and the Czech Republic in the field of SD.

Principles and strategy of Sustainable Development (SD). Global problems.

Basic knowledges of chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Ecology.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Final classification is based on average classification of individual tasks - seminar work and their oral presentation.

Course curriculum

1. Introduction of SD, terms, the concept of SD, timeline.
2. Principles of SD (Objectivities, Qaulity of Life, Diversity, Carryng capacity, Future Generations, Polluter Pays, precaution)
3. Problems of pollutions, resources, Environmental Ethics, World in the balance Earth peril.
4. Climate change, Ozone Depletion, problems of oceans, Freswater, Wildlife, soil, Land Use, Waste, Radioactivity.
5. The importance of declaration, convention of SD, Key documents (Bruntland Report, Rio Earth Summit, Agenda 21, Kyoto protocol, Johannesburg 2002, Millenium Ecosystem Assessment, 2003), Plans of Implementation, OECD. Key documents of SD in EU and CZ.
6. Indicators od SD, Plans of Environment 2010 - Environmental Issue
7. Environment, strategy, perspective.

Aims

The understanding of basic principles and strategy of sustainable development SD, Global problems of mankind. The importance of special parts of declaration, convention of sustainable development. Characteristic features of plans of sustainable development. Indicators of SD. Activities of the European Union and the Czech Republic in the field of SD and nature protection.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Consultations for students in distant form.
Requirements: oral presentation and seminar work.
Oral consultation in the extent of lectures.
