Students will obtain theoretical knowledge in the field of corporate economics regarding individual corporate activities.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Course curriculum

Lectures syllabus:
1. Requirements to exam. Position of the firm in globalised world, position of the firm in the EU economics. Legal forms of business. Types of firms.

2. Reproduction process of the firm and its unit. Balance sheet. Assets and capital structure of the firm and value of capital. Fundamental analysis. Balance analysis and theory. International accounting standards IFRS, GAAP.

3. Evaluation at financial accounting. Evaluation – basic terms, legal regulation, evaluation of individual items of asset – tangible, intangible, reserves, receivables.

4. Evaluation of the firm. Procedure at evaluation of the firm, asset methods, performance models, market, EVA.

5. Economic management of the firm. Efficiency, economic efficiency, economic effectiveness, concept of costs and revenues in financial accounting, finding of economical result, cash flow.

6. Costs management, calculation methods – surcharge, variable costs, dynamical calculation, methods for prices assessment.

7. Financial management of the firm. Sources of external and internal financing. Standard methods for the firm’s performance analysis, profitability analysis, financial stability, economic activity.

8. Assessment of economic performance of the firm. Balanced Scorecard, alternative profit categories, usage of EVA for performance assessment.

9. Investment and long term financing in the firm. Budgets of capital expenditures, assessment of investments‘ economic effectiveness, investment decision making, risk analysis.

10. Production process in the firm. Processes effectiveness, material reserves and usage of time funds, environmental management in the firm.

11. Personnel management in the firm. Subject and aims of the personnel work, organisation, wages system in the firm, wages forms.

12. Firm’s financial accounting. Double-entry accounting, in-house accounting. Analysis and statistics Budgeting.

13. Internal and external audit of the firm. Summary.

Seminar syllabus.

1. Requirements for credit. Time schedule of seminar. National specifics of the firm conception, variety of the firm environment.
2. Reproduction process of the firm Fundamental analysis. Optimizing of the capital structure, rules of financing, effectiveness of the firm.
3. Asset evaluation, depreciation.

Aims

The course provides basic theoretical knowledge in the sphere of corporate economy. The course deals with structure, functioning and organizational scheme of a company. It focuses on characteristics of basic corporate activities, property and capital structure of a company, financial management and economy, questions related to the evaluation of a company and property, revenues and costs from the managerial point of view, corporate activities (productive activity, research work, and investment activity), corporate accounting, and personal management. Lectures place an emphasis on the economic aspect of given topics and focus on acquiring professional terminology.
